LEARN TO MAKE POTTERY WITH ME

Either a one off introduction to throwing a pot or a series of lessons to take you through the entire making process. These sessions can take place on a weekday after 3pm (or a Saturday can be arranged if weekdays don't work for you) at my home studio in Plymouth. All materials, tools and firings are included in the cost.

Please email me at georgia@gb-ceramics.co.uk to book a place.

One Session for one (1.5 hours) £60

In a one off session you will learn how to wedge the clay and prepare it for throwing. I will then give a demo of how to throw a basic cylinder. Following the demo you will have the rest of the lesson to get to grips with the clay and throw your own piece, I will be there to guide you through every step. I will then turn your pots for you and finish them in a white glaze. Your pots will be ready to collect 3-4 weeks after your lesson (postage can be arranged). A maximum of three pots can be fired and finished for you.

One Session for two (2.5 hours) £110

In a one off session for two you will learn how to wedge the clay and prepare it for throwing. I will then give a demo of how to throw a basic cylinder. Following the demo you will have the rest of the lesson to get to grips with the clay and throw your own pieces, I will be there to guide you through every step. I have one potters wheel so when one of you is on there, the other can either watch or be making something on the table (such as a flat decoration or a pinch pot, let your imagination run wild!) and then you’ll swap. I will then turn your pots for you and finish them in a white glaze. Your pots will be ready to collect 3-4 weeks after your lesson (postage can be arranged). A maximum of three pots can be fired and finished per person.

Pottery Course for one (3 sessions, 1.5 hours each) £180

We will cover the whole process of making a pot from preparing the clay, throwing, trimming/turning, making and adding handles and then glazing your pieces.

Session 1 - You will learn to prepare the clay for throwing and will be guided through the throwing process to produce your own pots.

Session 2 - You will learn how to turn your pots, trimming off excess clay and tidying them up so they are ready for their first firing (bisque firing). You can also add handles at this stage if desired.

Session 3 - You will be taught how to glaze your pots using the dipping method in a white glaze. Your pots will be ready to collect 3-4 weeks after your final lesson (postage can be arranged). A maximum of three pots can be fired and finished for you.

HEAR WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THEIR POTTERY EXPERIENCE WITH ME

" Georgia gave me the confidence to learn pottery after a previous bad experience. She welcomed me into her studio with open arms. The 1-to-1 sessions were excellent, professional and have given me the ability to make a mug that I am personally proud of and use every day! I would highly recommend Georgia’s pottery class and will be continuing my ceramic journey with her.”  Jodie

"As someone who had never thrown before, Georgia was incredibly patient and taught in a way that made pottery accessible and welcoming for a complete beginner. I went from learning how to prepare, wedge, and centre clay, to being able to shape my first usable coffee mugs and plant pots within a few hours. The quality finish and glaze of my newly acquired mugs are a result of the additional hard work by Georgia, and they now sit in pride of place in the kitchen. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to explore ceramics for the first time, or wanting to improve their existing skillset." Hollie
